  1. Visit https://thesassacheck.com/ 
  2. Foster parents should either enter their South African ID Number or they can also enter bar-coded ID number
  3. Now enter the cell phone number of the individual concerned with SASSA Foster Child Grant Status application and press the submit button.
  4. Wait while the web portal looks for your SASSA Foster Child Care Grant Status in the database.
  5. Once it’s done, your status will be displayed. 

Please Note: In case your foster child has any kind of disability, he is also eligible for SASSA Care-dependency Grant.

Under the South African Child Care Act, the beneficiaries of SASSA Child Support Grant can also benefit from it. 

SASSA Approved Payment Methods for Foster Child Grant

While submitting the application, make sure that you choose the payment method that suits you. The money can be sent to you on the specified days which you can collect from any pay point. Another method is that it is directly transferred to your bank account. 

Please Note: In case you choose the second method i.e, money sent to your bank account, it will be subject to the regular bank charges. In case your mind has changed and you want to change the payment method, you will have to fill out a form at the Welfare Office. The requested change will come to effect after a month of application. 

Expect to receive grant payments within three months with a retroactive date of application submission.

Discontinuation of SASSA Foster Child Grant

Following are the cases in which SASSA Foster Child Grant is discontinued:

  • Demise of both the foster parents.
  • Demise of the child.
  • The child is not under foster care anymore.
  • The child has turned 18 and is leaving for school.
  • The child has started earning which goes beyond the qualifying amount.
