Change SRD Grant Payment Method
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) allows beneficiaries of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to change their payment method during specific windows of opportunity. These changes can be made online, providing flexibility to switch between payment methods, such as from the Post Office to a bank account or to a Cash Send option.
Why You Should Change SRD Grant Payment Method
Changing your payment method can offer several advantages:
- Faster Payments: Payments directly into a bank account are processed faster than other methods.
- Convenience: Avoid long queues at the Post Office by choosing bank transfer or Cash Send.
- Security: Bank transfers are generally more secure than other payment methods.

Follow these steps to change your SRD grant payment method:
1. Check for Open Window Periods
SASSA periodically opens a window period when beneficiaries can update their payment methods. Keep an eye on announcements from SASSA or check their official website to know when the next window opens

3. Choose Your Preferred Payment Method
You can choose from the following options:
- Bank Transfer: This is the quickest and most recommended method. Make sure the account is in your name, as SASSA will not pay into accounts registered under someone else’s name. In case of any changes required, you change Change SASSA Banking Details also.
- Cash Send: Ideal if you do not have a bank account. Ensure the cellphone number provided is registered in your name and RICA verified.
- Post Office Collection: Although still available, this option may involve delays and long queues.
Common Issues and How to Avoid Them
- Incorrect Bank Details: Double-check your bank details before submitting to avoid delays.
- Closed Bank Accounts: Make sure the account is active; closed accounts will result in payment delays.
- Unregistered Cellphone Numbers: If using Cash Send, the cellphone number must be registered in your name.
