There are two types of SASSA Disability Grant

1. Temporary Disability

2. Permanent Disability 

For permanently disabled citizens, the government offers them the amount of R 2,090 every month to help them ease their difficulties and support them through disability grants. SASSA offers this grant plan to citizens who cannot work for over 12 months. 

What is the Amount of SASSA Disability Grant Payment

SASSA is increasing the grant starting from 1st October 2024. Currently the amount is R2,090 which will be 2,180 from the mentioned date onwards. The amount is increased by R90.

Payment Methods for Disability Grant Recipients

Payment for disability grant can be received by various methods

1. Payments can be collected at verified stores like Pick n Pay and Checkers on the scheduled day of your payment.
2. It can be directly deposited n you ban accounts that you provided
3. SASSA can directly deposit the payment to the healthcare institution for disabled persons

 When Your Disability Grant May Lapsed

1. Any change in your personal details.
2. If SASSA finds any problem through verification
3. Non cooperation during application review process
4. Any fraudulent behavior of applicant
5. F already staying at state funded institution
6. Not claiming your grant for 3 consecutive months
7. Prolonged absence from the country

What if Disability grant application is not approved

In case your application has been rejected you will get the notification from SASSA. You can Appeal SASSA to review your application which will take up to 90 days.

Who is Eligible for the SASSA Disability Grant?

1. You need to be a South African citizen (permanent or refuge)
2. Eligible age is 18 to 59 years old.
3. South African residency is a must.
4. You have any mental or physical disability either temporary or permanent. 
5. You are eligible for a temporary grant if you cannot work for 6 to less than12 months only.
6. You are eligible for a permanent grant if you cannot work for over 12 months.
7. SASSA Means Test is required to be eligible.
8. A check up from a state doctor is mandatory who will confirm the disability.
9. You are eligible when not getting any other SASSA grant. 
10. If you are under the care of a state institute, then you cannot apply.
11. You are not eligible if staying in a government funded place for long. 

Remember! If any child is disabled but not 18 yet, their guardian can apply for a Care Dependency Grant. Without an ID, an affidavit is required as proof for identification at Department of Home Affairs verification.  But the application for child ID should be registered within 3 months for SASSA grant application. 

 How to Apply for the SASSA Disability Grant

Documents that are needed for application are as follows

1. Permanent residents require ID documents.
2. Refugees need to submit a 13 digits ID.
3. Bank statement for the last 3 months.
4. In case of marriage or divorce, proof is required.
5. Proof for private pension is required.
6. Proof about the ownership and valuables verified by the government. 
7. Verified medical reports of disability.
